Advent simply means “coming.” Christ came the first time to earth, born of a virgin, to die for the sins of humanity. Christmas is a celebration of the first Advent and a consideration of the second, when Christ will return to establish His reign forever and ever.

In John’s first epistle, he records a beautiful section outlining two ways in which God’s love through Christ is selfish and not selfish.
