Nehemiah was absolutely heartbroken by the status of Jerusalem and his people, God’s Chosen, in a state of disrepair and disrepute. What did he do? He wept and prayed to the God of Heaven. Prayer was not a last resort, it was Nehemiah’s first resort. As a result, God’s heart was moved and the hearts of men–including Nehemiah–was molded to carry out God’s good, acceptable, and perfect will.
